Important Update for 2027-28 Research Projects
A central application process will be implemented for research projects this academic year. More information will be shared in November 2026, and this webpage will be updated as details become available. Students are also encouraged to watch the recording of the Research Course Info Session (below) to learn more about research opportunities. Please stay tuned for updates.

The Programs Office has been working to streamline the 12.0-unit undergraduate research courses across the Biochemistry, Health Sciences, and Life Sciences programs. As part of this effort, research projects will now be grouped by topic area or discipline, rather than by program.

3rd year BHSc degree program students are eligible for: HSCI 591 and 593 (along with 592, 594, 595)

4th year BHSc degree program students are eligible for:

2026 Research Course Info Session

If you have an interest in any of the Health Sciences Research Courses, be sure to familiarize yourself with the following steps.

Bachelor of Health Sciences students interested in pursuing a 598/599 project in their fourth year should contact professors late fall of their third year unless a professor indicates a specific date. Please refer to the following websites for faculty associated with 598/599 projects (note: sometimes students will go outside of these but they will require approval - email hsciresearch@queensu.ca)
- Biomedical and Molecular Sciences
- Pathology
- Public Health Sciences
- Centre for Neuroscience
- School of Nursing
- School of Rehabilitation Therapy
- Clinician Scientists and other researchers in clinical departments within the Faculty of Health Sciences
- Note: Although students are permitted to explore opportunities with supervisors outside of the above indicated academic units, researchers from other Faculties at Queen's (e.g. Faculty of Arts and Science, Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science, and Smith School of Business) will likely have obligations to prioritize research opportunities for students within their own Faculty programs. Thus, we encourage you to reach out first to Health Sciences faculty members as potential supervisors. If you are hoping to conduct a research project at a facility other than Queen’s or remotely with a supervisor not associated with Queen’s, reach out to Research Course Coordinator to discuss.
Students are expected to provide an unofficial transcript to their potential supervisor, thus confirming their eligibility for a 598/599 project.
Once an agreement has been made between you and a supervisor, please email hsciresearch@queensu.ca from your Queen's email (and include your student number) letting us know who your supervisor is (and copying them on the email) and indicating which 598/599 project (course code) you will be completing.
Please note that some research grants will be announced later in the winter term, so faculty will not know until later in the term if they will be taking a 598/599 student. We can add 598/599 projects to a student's schedule generally until the middle of August.
