Anatomical Basis of Health and Disease

Courses contributing to this learning track will introduce basic anatomical foundations and key concepts of the integrated relationships between structure and function. Students will learn about anatomical structures and be challenged to extend this knowledge to investigate and predict how variations in the anatomy contribute to pathology and disease.

This track requires students to take a total of 6 courses.

ANAT 380 Clinically Relevant Human Anatomy

ANAT 380 Clinically Relevant Human Anatomy is a course on regional anatomy of the human body focusing on active and collaborative learning. Through a series of learning modules that will include readings, group learning activities, assignments, and inquiry, students will explore the major organ systems, their components and the relationships between them in gaining an appreciation of the architecture of the human body.

ANAT 309 Functional Histology

ANAT 309 Functional Histology is designed to introduce students to the field of mammalian histology, or microscopic anatomy. Histology is a branch of the anatomical sciences that deals with the study of the structure and functions of normal tissues and cells of the body.

ANAT 312 Functional Neuroanatomy

ANAT 312 Functional Neuroanatomy offers the study of the structure and function of the nervous system by lectures, hands-on laboratories, brain dissection, and readings. Topics include, but are not limited to, sensory and motor systems, brain imaging, and clinical examples.

ANAT 391 Introduction to Cadaveric Dissection

ANAT 391 Introduction to Cadaveric Dissection 391 is a course on human macro and microdissection that uses a series of carefully curated online modules, group learning activities, assignments, and inquiry-based learning to enable students to explore the process of human dissection and discover the value of teaching anatomy using dissected human specimens

ANAT 409 Selected Topics in Histology

ANAT 409 Selected Topics in Histology offers a focused histological and cell biological study of three selected mammalian tissues, organs and/or systems

ANAT 471 Human Embryology

ANAT 471 Human Embryology is a course on human embryology that uses a series of carefully curated online modules, group learning activities, assignments, and inquiry-based learning, to enable students to explore the stages of normal human embryonic and fetal development, as well as some of the underlying mechanisms involved in common congenital or developmental abnormalities.

NSCI 483 Neurobiology of Learning and Memory

NSCI 483 Neurobiology of Learning and Memory is an exploration of brain systems underlying how we learn and remember, and how they become disordered. Online multimedia modules and study of cutting-edge research articles reveal how modern techniques and ideas are driving neuroscience forward.

ANAT 599 Research Inquiry in Anatomy

ANAT 599 Research Inquiry in Anatomy is a course on collaborative research in the Anatomical Sciences. Students will use a team-based approach to devise a research question that addresses a gap in knowledge in the Anatomical Sciences.
