Dr. Szewczuk has more than thirty-five years’ experience at Queen’s University teaching immunology at the undergraduate Life Sciences program, medical and graduate levels. Throughout his career, Dr. Szewczuk has been extensively involved in developing innovative teaching practices for immunology in student-based learning, didactic lectures and undergraduate research project training. My undergraduate trainees collectively in the past years have received awards, research prizes and scholarships such as Microbiology Research Prize, Undergraduate Prize in Microbiology, F.H. Milazzo Prize in Microbiology, National Canadian Society of Microbiology CSM Undergraduate Award, NSERC USRA and Undergraduate MITACS Globalink Program for International Student Placement.
Dr. Szewczuk’s undergraduate 4th year research project students, NSERC USRA trainees and Mitacs funded students have contributed as co-authorships to publications and international scientific conference presentations. A high proportion of his undergraduate trainees have continued in academic, biotechnical companies and medical careers. Dr. Szewczuk’s is an advocate of student mentorship in the Life Science program and graduate levels. His dedication to student mentorship and learning has won him student nominations for the Ron Wigle Mentorship Award and Excellence in Graduate Supervision at Queen’s University.
